Day Two – Ashland

Ashland is the home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.  We have heard about it for years but never pulled the trigger on visiting.  The OSF is not a festival in the conventional sense, but more of a Shakespearean theater company that runs multiple plays nightly for most of the year.

We arrived in Ashland around noon and were greeted by Lithia Park, a nice city park perfect for strolling. Thus, we strolled until we ran out of park and bumped into downtown.  I approached an information booth and asked for things to do in Ashland but stated that we are not here to see a play.  The two confused faces from the inside of the booth faded after a few seconds and they politely handed me a couple of brochures and a map of Ashland.

Later that afternoon we meandered through quaint downtown Ashland eventually taking in dinner at an Italian restaurant with a great view from the balcony where we sat.  Each night, just before the plays start, Ashland offers a free 45 minute concert called the GreenShow. Tonight’s theme was the history of African American music. If you are imagining upbeat, fun music from past decades you are imagining correctly.  It was a nice way to end the evening.
