Day Four – Lakeview

Our only plans for the day is to go to Klamath Falls so to get there we opted for the scenic highway 66 that traverses through the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument. After a ninety minute drive with beautiful views we arrived in Klamath Falls and quickly realized that Klamath Falls was not going to be our final stop for the day.  It is a town that has been worn down through time with little done to rebuild or gentrify it.  So after lunch we looked at the map and decided to move on to Lakeview two hours east.  The drive through the Fremont-Winema National Forest and high desert was enjoyable and scenic.  Lakeview is a sleepy little town but it also has its own charm.  For dinner we decided to grab a sandwich and drive to Goose Lake State Park on the Oregon-California border and enjoy the evening on the lake shore for our patented shady tree happy hour.  We arrived at the park and quickly realized that the name of the park must change since calling it a lake is false advertising.  The pictures below show what we saw on the map and what we expected versus reality.

We suggest changing the name from Goose Lake to Bovine Valley and we demand that Google Maps change the color of this area from refreshing blue to dead grass brown immediately. The park host said that the lake hasn’t seen water for five years. Regardless, we still had our shady tree happy hour so all was not lost.  We were right on the state line so as we returned we dipped our toes in California just to do it then headed back to the hotel to retire for the evening.
